National Alzheimer's Association
In 1954, Sigma Kappa became the first sorority to recognize the need for continued comprehensive work on the study of aging and the needs of the elderly population. In 1984, Sigma Kappa responded to an increasingly critical problem facing older Americans by adding emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease to its gerontology program. Through this Foundation program, Sigma Kappa has become one of the nation’s leading contributors to Alzheimer’s disease prevention, research and treatment efforts. Since the Inception of the Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Disease and Research Grant program in 1988, the Sigma Kappa Foundation has granted over one half million dollars in research and psychosocial grants to the investigators and practitioners who are on the front lines in the fight against this debilitating disease.
Here at Alpha Chi, we participate in the Memory Walk in Lexington and support the foundation through lollipop sales, an annual pancake dinner and various other money raising projects.

Inherit the Earth
Through Inherit the Earth, collegians, alumnae and older citizens work together to improve local environments. Our chapter has adopted a highway in Georgetown that we clean regularly.
Maine Sea Coast Mission
In honor of Sigma Kappa’s five founders from Maine, the 1918 convention chose the Maine Sea Coast Missionary Society as the sorority’s first national philanthropy. In November and May, the Sigma Kappa Foundation provides financial contributions to the mission for use in the Christmas program, the emergency relief program and for scholarships. The Christmas program provides gifts to the needy families during the holiday season. Many families benefit from the emergency relief program which provides assistance with food, clothing, shelter, and medical needs. The scholarship program benefits young men and women from the islands who might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue educational opportunities beyond high school.
Windsor Gardens
Collegiate and alumnae members throughout the country volunteer their time and talent in support of numerous projects to assist and benefit the elderly. The members of Alpha Chi regularly visit Georgetown’s senior citizens at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living Center.
